CATS Spooky Season Meows-Letter

CATS SPOOKY SEASON MEOWLETTER

What’s scarier than BIG $$ ART GRANT deadlines lurking around the corner?

Stay tuned for the BIG $$ Round, which will be open from Halloween through New Year’s.

As of now, we will be using the same application platform (Volunteeripate) as last year, so plan accordingly. Hopefully we’ve fixed the bugs from last year, but we recommend saving a back-up version of your art grant text in a separate doc… JUST IN CASE. Also be aware that there will be a *word count limit* for each question, same as in Burning Man art grant apps. Additionally, we will be tweaking and re-vamping our art grant questions a bit to eliminate inefficiencies and to help us help you make your arty visions crystal clear for us CATS to evaluate.

If you haven’t heard yet – we’re Westword famous!

Westword wrote an article featuring all of the year round work that Apogaea + CATS are doing to put money directly back into our local arts community, break down the barriers to funding local art and empower art teachers.

“The benefit of their (CATS) grant is that it doesn’t have strings attached. They’re not making you jump through these hoops,” (Alisha) says. “They’re saying, ‘We respect you as professionals. We want to get art in kids’ hands. We want art in our community, and we’re not going to make you go through six months of red tape to get a handful of materials that are only going to serve 10% of your students.’”

-Alisha Black-Mallon, CATS art teacher grant recipient

CATS gave out nine $500 micro-grants this fall to local art teachers to purchase new supplies for their students and classrooms. With just $3500, we were able to supply 2000 students with art supplies. Due to high demand – and the fact that we were able to literally DOUBLE art teachers’ annual budgets! – we will be offering more of these next fall. So tell your art teacher friends and stay tuned for announcements about this in early August.

All of the money we’ve been able to donate to art teachers comes directly from our GAYLA fundraising efforts.

Summer Art Recap: Monica Hsu’s Art Camp for Kids!

CATS awarded Monica Hsu $2200 to put on a week-long art camp for kiddos in Loveland back in July. And it went great!

“We got so much amazing feedback! One parent told me her daughter has taken so many art classes and she has never experienced anything like this. They loved that each day was a new medium and how much freedom they had with it. We even had a parent ask if we would ever do something for adults. I’m really grateful for this experience and would 100% be open to doing it again.”

“Overall I think it was a major success and we were able to provide a unique and fulfilling art camp for some very crazy kiddos. Thank you for backing my dream and helping me change some lives!”

-Monica Hsu, Apogaea artist (repeat offender*), art teacher + CATS grant recipient

As always, thanks for reading and thanks for your continued support, for us and for the arts. See you at the Gayla!

Yay art!!

With gratCATitude,
Your friendly Apogaea CATS Team
