From Apogaea’s DPW LNT Lead…
Firstly, I would like to applaud everyone on their Leave No Trace (LNT) efforts. Overall, the land was well taken care of by our participants, reflecting a strong commitment to our principles. We had three red camps and three yellow camps, and while there were areas for improvement, the majority of participants upheld our LNT standards admirably.
- Environmental Context: The land that Apogaea resides on serves as cattle land for the majority of the year, making our event the only one hosted here. It is crucial that we maintain awareness that cattle will roam and graze here, necessitating careful land stewardship.
- Stewardship Responsibility: With this understanding, it is imperative that we care for the land and the animals that call it home.
- Wind Impact: We understand the wind on burn night played a factor in several of these issues. As a community, we came together to help each other out with several destroyed shade structures. Thank you for caring for one another.
- Positive Growth: This report aims not to shame but to inform positively. Each challenge presents an opportunity for learning and growth within our community and beyond.
Recap: The dedication shown by participants is commendable, and the majority of the land was maintained well. Considering the unique environmental context of hosting Apogaea on cattle land and the responsibility it entails, we must continue to prioritize careful stewardship of the land and its inhabitants. Wind impacts during burn night were noted, and as a community, we came together to help each other with several destroyed shade structures, demonstrating a spirit of mutual support and care. Let’s approach these challenges as opportunities for positive growth, fostering a community that learns, improves, and leaves a lasting positive impact on Apogaea and beyond.
Thank you all for contributing to a memorable and responsible Surreal Safari experience.
The LNT Lead would like the opportunity to speak directly with the Red and Yellow camps to discuss the findings and ensure that a LNT camp liaison is appointed for next year. The LNT Lead will be reaching out via email in the next week to the camp leads. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to preserving the beauty of Apogaea.
Also, LNT team is looking for someone who can create a digital MOOP Map for next year, as opposed to my pink and yellow highlighter… If you would like to make it better, join DPW LNT team.
