Welcome Apogaea 2016 Board of Directors!!
Votes are in and we are excited to announce the newest additions to the Board of Directors!
There is a total of 9 board member spots on the Board and every year Ignition elects three new board members for 3-year terms! In addition to our 3 full-term positions, the new board elects new members as vacancies occur. The new Board of Directors were voted in by the 19 Ignition members that participated.

The Census has been released!
First off, I would like to start by giving some accolades to our Ignition team, Mission Control, and Board of Directors for rocking so hard this year! The event was pulled off beautifully. Everyone worked really hard to get the new land ready and solve any issues that the new land presented. All in all, a very successful event.
Let’s begin with some general statistics:
18% of our population this year were brand new fresh meat VIRGINS! The 81% of the population that had been to a Burn before most had been to Decompression and Burnal Equinox. Way to support your local Burning community! These awesome Burning veterans had also been to represented Colorado by attending other events! 24% attended Burning Flipside, 16% Element 11, 12% Transformus, 10% Lakes of Fire, 10% Aguero Man, 9% Alchemy, and 9% Playa del Fuego.
On to what you guys thought about the event itself:
87% of you thought that the timing of this year’s event was perfect with a distant 2nd being 7% stating that it conflicted but you made it work! In terms of ticket costs, 58% of you thought that the price was just right whereas 23% thought that it was expensive but you made do. At 65%, most of you thought that the money that we receive from ticket sales is well spent. Many of you (22%) said that we make so much happen for so little and you wonder how we do it! I’ll tell you a secret: It’s all magic and fairy dust! However, 12% of you thought that you we should have provided more infrastructure and land. Please remember, there were a lot of land changes that we made before this event started. We had been on Floston Peak for a long time. Since this land is more spread out, the infrastructure that we had was also more spread out. It was better last year anyway!
Signing the waiver is really important, while 90% of you signing it is good, what happened to the other 10%?! The Survival Guide was read by 70% of you, the Who What When Where Guide was read by 68% of you, and 96% of you looked at the Event Map. Many of you (47%) thought that we put a fair amount of thought into the 10 principles and had no complaints; a third of you thought that you saw examples of the 10 principles wherever you looked; and 19% thought that we were doing it wrong and could have done better.
Some statistics getting onto the land:
most of you had a descent experience with ticketing. 86% of you had a great time at the gate. Some of you 94% of you had little to no complaints about the parking shuttle, and many of you thought that your experience from gate into the event was better than you expected. The greeters did a great job and most of you thought that as well! Parking did a great job on new land and we can’t thank Nolan enough for getting this off without a hitch! Many of you were very pleased with the waiting lines to get onto the property.
Let’s talk a bit more about the land:
27% were indifferent to the land, not horrible but not exceptional either. 33% thought that the land was good, and 23% thought that the land was exceptional. Let’s work together and find some land that we all love dearly and can be happy about. We are still deciding whether or not we will sign land contracts again at this spot. Stay tuned for more information! The population was kind of all over the place about the number of portapotties available. This is definitely an area that needs improvement and we will take this into account next year. Thanks for letting us know! At least we kept them well maintained and looking nice for the most part!
Other key departments:
The sound team did a great job and the vast majority of you thought that sound levels and music coordination was handled very well this year and that the diversity of music represented was a great. There were a lot of complaints of there not being enough bagpipes. Maybe next year we can have a bagpipe parade!
The placement team was on fire this year! Most of you thought that they did a decent job! Of course, the art this year was amazing! You loved how the art grants were handled. Go CATS! Thank you for all of your hard work. You had so much amazing art to choose from and you chose well! The Effigy got some really mixed reviews but the Temple was out of this world!
Rangers and BAMF did a great job this year. Most people were able to get the help that was needed! 84% were familiar with the Rangers and knew how to contact them when needed. Apogaea Security Squad did a great job, as always! Parking enforcement did a great job and most people were pleased with their experience. De-Greeters have a hard job but most people were very happy with their experience. Exodus did a great job, too!! Leave No Trace did a great job and most people had heard about LNT before or during the event. Rangers and BAMF are obviously well loved by our community! Some comments: “Rangers are love!” “Medical was great!” Thanks for being awesome!!
There were many many hugs going around. Your favorite art installations and Theme Camps were Speleobox, Jedi Fire Simon, The Owl, Sound Puddle, Camp Wardrobe MalfunKtion, Hamster Wheel, Truffala Oasis, OctoPussy, Biodiversity Fire Sphere, and LacadaisicL. The general consensus on the land was that it was beautiful, very spread out, lots of cactus, great for biking, and there were ankle eating divots.
