Apogaea Supports “I Love You Guys”

A group of people stand together outdoors on grass. One person holds a large novelty check. Another person speaks into a microphone. Theyre surrounded by onlookers, with a band setting up in the background. Some people wear hats and sunglasses. Fifteen Apogaea community members proudly volunteered their time on Sunday, Sept. 30th in Bailey, CO, to help with the two I Love You Guys Foundation (ILYG) fundraiser events coinciding to honor emergency responders and unite community.

The volunteers who came out on this beautiful day were April Menegazzo, Steve Merager (and his two sons), Bob and Miss Alicious, Caroline Kert, John and Elizabeth Collins, Julie Stenger, Eddie Hayes and Loveon Smith, Robin Schuster, Wren Siegal and Matt Stringer. Each contributed: some running in the 5k; others taking on registration, the water tables, and court-marshaling. The events convened afterwards for a BBQ at the Platte Canyon High School, where some helped with cooking and serving up food. There were tasty sausages to serve, thanks to MissAlicious and Bobalicious arranging a large sausage donation from Coleman for a second year.

A person in a red shirt and black cap grills an assortment of sausages on a large outdoor barbecue. There are trees and rocky hills in the background, and a van is parked nearby. The person is wearing gloves and appears to be attending to the food. April, Matt, and Steve presented the $1000 donation, which drew a lot of applause from the crowd. Apo was acknowledged throughout the event, and residents expressed appreciation of Apogaea’s involvement with the Bailey community. We were also mentioned in the ‘preview’ article by Flume as well.

Nearby, a water bottle sits on the grills side shelf. The two events, the ER (Emily’s Run)::5k and Emily’s Parade raise funds for the ILYG Foundation to support its mission to “restore and protect the joy of youth.” The Foundation began in response to the tragic shooting of Emily Keyes at Platte Canyon High School in September 2006.
