Apogaea Burn Ban – ACTIVE
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to recent changes in the weather patterns near Bailey, CO, Apogaea is currently under BURN BAN CONDITIONS, and with the weather forecast, is expected to stay under a Burn Ban for the duration of the event.
What does this mean for the event?
- NO – Wood or charcoal Fires
- NO – Effigy burn (though there will still be a ceremony and performance!)
- NO – Wood-burning Barrels
- YES – Propane heaters
- YES – Propane/butane cookstoves
- YES – Preapproved propane flame effects
- MAYBE – Fire performance tools (poi, staff, etc.) in a designated location – Check with Fire Convergence at the event BEFORE lighting up!
What should I do differently?
- As always, plan to dress warm! Nighttime lows around 40F are expected.
- If you were planning on bringing a burn barrel or enclosed fire pit you should plan to leave it at home, or bring a propane insert for it instead of wood. (All pre-registered fire device owners should have received a more detailed email about the the topic already).
- Bring more LED BLINKY THINGS!
- Stay awesome! Some people get all depressed when we can’t burn stuff, but one of my best years at Flipside was during a Burn Ban! The party is still on, and you’ll still be amazed. Don’t let one little thing like a burn ban get you down. And remember – nothing warms you up like some crazy dancin’ (or a close friend)!
If you have questions about the ban, email Sam Ley ([email protected]). Likewise, if you have suggestions for cool ways to retrofit a burn barrel to run on propane, or inexpensive and cool propane heaters that are available locally, please send those along as well, or start a discussion on the Apogaea Facebook group to share your knowledge with the community. For more information on fire and burn bans, read the recent Apogaea Fire Bulletin.
