Wakatui

WAKATUI, Sponsored by AREA 71. It defines and defies the chaos that is abound and surrounds us every day. Dare to explore some inner thoughts of the creative yet torn soul in us all? One can reinvent oneself at any and every moment. You and your soulmates and friends, come take a new surreal journey into a visual pow wow of etherial thoughts, emotions, contemplations and inner challenges. > As a renewed theme camp, (some experienced in the Black Light Tee Pee from Apogaea last year) come hang out at the WAKATUI Black Light Lounge and patio deck (no tee pee this year, a lounge instead) at the great circle. Also experience the Spirit’s Rising Sweat Lodge. (Sweat Lodge is right across the road from WAKATUI, an intense and spiritual purification ceremony with fired-hot rocks, water and intense sweat done in the Lakota tradition. Sober people only, intense physically, please learn more at the event.) As your own heart beats, come drum your hearts away, share in the experience of the lost art of deep conversations, philosophize as you gaze into the TikiMan WAKATUI and into yourself. Be sure to write intentions at the foot of the 30 foot tall TikiMan. the intentions will then be burned in the fire of the Budah on the big night. One can reinvent oneself at any and every moment.

Shoot the Bouncy

You like to philosophize about the meaning of life (of course you do!). You like to bounce up and down on big ol’ rubber balls (well who wouldn’t?). Why not both at the same time? Come and Shoot the Bouncy with your fellow Deep Thinkers. It’s a dome that’s chock full of inflatable ‘exercise’ balls. Who are we to define ‘exercise’? Come exercise your senses as you explore the heights and depths of the mind and the body with your fellow free thinkbouncers.

The Poked in the Eye Parade Bounce & Lounge

AVit Retreat Surround A/V Dome

Avit Retreat 2006, surround A/V project.. This project will bring out various Visual Artists/VJs from around the country and N. America to build a collaborative A/V set, which will later be published in DVD form. The visual showcase will be presented with the collaborations of a dozen or so VJs.

The Casbah

The Casbah returns to Apogaea and we invite you to take pleasure in a relaxing visit to our loungetastic sensorium. The Casbah is the heart of an ancient North African city where you can sit, relax, drink tea, talk with friends and smoke sweetly infused tobaccos from shishas. Late night we’ll rock this Casbah with exotic sounds, startling sights, curvy hips and other delights! Come early, come late, come loose, or come straight to the Casbah. We welcome you to our oasis!

Pink Pussie Palace

Hosted by Meow-Wow, Pussie S’More, Kitty-Kitty Bon-Bon and Purscilla. Come and lounge in our amazing Pink Pussie dome, complete with our favorite grooovin tunes compliments of the one and only Milkman (because all Pussie’s love milk). Bring a picture of your favorite pussie to put on our posh pink walls. Happy hour 3-7 on Saturday with complimentary Pussie E’lickers, but grooovin all the time. Play in our liter boxes or swim in our big bowl of cream…cuddle and have pillow fights all night long. The Pink Pussie Palace never closes…

Here Come the Gypsies*

A camp attempting to reproduce a ‘typical’ gypsy encampment visiting a small town. Complete with gypsy style fortunes tellers, dancers, story tellers, artists, and much more. At night, we all will transform into creatures that bewilder and surprise. There will even be a dancing dark pixie or two for all to enjoy.

The Grand ARAX Lounge*

The Grand Arax Lounge is a pocket of a future utopia, sent back in time and space to show us what is possible. In this future time, we finally evolved to a place where we live in peace with one another and in harmony with our enviroment. Now it’s time to celebrate! Join the resident Araxans as we celebrate in our blacklight jungle, dancing to the beat by night, and lounging under the jungle shade relaxing to chill tunes by day. There will be space for everyone to share their gifts of poetry, dance, music, art, conversation, and love. Also,there will be Araxan punches for the refreshment or libation of those who so desire. Arax is yet to be, yet Arax here still remains.

The Aspen Grooove

Grooovin, chill soundscapes in a fantastic, surreal, enhanced forest setting. Complete with chill music, lounging surfaces, and a tea/juice/smoothie/alcohol bar. More will be added as we go, so check our website.

The Heebeegeebee Healers

The Bass Cave

The Bass Cave – the habitat of the endangered alien bass fish from Neptune. By synchronizing vibrations of their bodies, they create powerful waves of energy that enter and cleanse your higher awareness while making your rump shake uncontrollably to the beat.

Freak Farm (Kidz Kamp)

Families of friends collaborate to create a safe, comfortable, fun, and FREAKY environment for the community of all ages. Together we foster a spirit of community, creativity, and caring through pot-luck meals, arts and crafts, face-painting, bubbles, story telling, music, dance, games, etc. In this camp, we all help to support each other in raising ourselves and our children consciously towards a new paradigm. Parents will be responsible for their own children at all times.

ART INSTALLATIONS

Lunar Cooties

These celestial socialites have sent a contingency to colonize the Happy Ass Ranch during the weekend of June 9-11th. Word has gotten out throughout the greater galaxy that intelligent life may be present at Apogaea. Come and mind-meld and prepare to be infected. Quarantine may be neccesary after prolonged exposure.

Temptation Tree

An experiment in abundance and serendipity. Participants are invited to replenish an abundant gifting tree with tempting items, food, drink, art, poems or anything else that can be offered up for the plucking, and also to partake of this communal gift.

Sphere of Influence

A suspended, multi-colored, blacklight reactive, four-foot diameter geodesic sphere. Start it spinning and plant yourself underneath. Allow yourself to by engulfed by the Sphere of Influence while listening to the groove tunes on the Live Stage. (experience enhancement aids not included)

The Grotto of OvoiDance

La Siren*

A human scale mosaic sculpture featuring a diva/Saravati. She has the tail of a mermaid entirely covered with patina’ed pennies. The double tiered base is covered with ceramic ties and broken ceramic pieces, separated by milti colored grout. I have gone back to visual roots, denying anything mechanical or electric. It will be the centerpiece of Center Camp at Burning Man this year and I’d love to show it on a more personal level at Apogea. It is very tactile and I’d encourage people to touch it. It has no internal lights, fire or electricity, so it will be best seen during the day, however I will have some spotlights on it for view at night.

Torch the Effigy*

A large effigy to burn at the end of the festival. Currently, the rough idea is to make a Buddha, but this has not been finalized.

Something weighing you down? Come find the ASPEN ROOM and lighten your load.

Fire Wings*

A fire performer will weld a pair of fire wings to wear from the back and a pair of fire fans to match. These would become a part of upcoming celebrations and events that include fire performance.

The Hand*

The hand is that which we use to create – to make tools, art, music and the written word. How we use the hand is something that identifies us as human. The hand-print is used in many societies as a symbol of protection against evil or misfortune. The open hand palm forward is a gesture of peace. The raised hand is used to offer blessings. This piece of artwork will be a large hand-print, 7 feet from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger. Mounted so the base of the palm will be about 5 feet off the ground and the highest point, the middle finger, will be about 12 feet above the ground.

MUSICAL ACTS & OTHER PERFORMANCE

The Buddha Rock Opera

The Buddha Rock Opera will begin at 10pm with Bhakti Rasa and joined by Sammy’s Drummers, Steamboat Springs West African Percussion Ensemble with an amazing fire show by The Colorado Fire Tribe.

Steamboat Springs West African Percussion Ensemble

We’ll be a part of the “pre-burn” performance and you will randomly hear the non-mistakenly hair raising traditional west african rhythms performed by the Steamboat Springs West African Percussion Ensemble…four or five homies from the Yampa Valley….the same group that has been performing for the fire shows at the Strawberry Park Hot Springs…Keep on Rockin!!!!

Beyond Black Rock – The Film

Mike Wilson, the director of the amazing Burning Man movie “Beyond Black Rock,” has completed a new extended version… and he’s bringing it to Apogaea! Tentative showtime is Friday nite around 10 or 11. Check the What/Where/When for final showtime(s).

Charkara

Charkara is an American Tribal Fusion dance duo from Florence, Colorado. We each bring our own spirit and spice to the cauldron of dance to create a unique style that integrates yummy costumes with dance styles from tribes around the world.

Bhakti Rasa

Bhakti Rasa is a Maha-Shakti Trio, combining Ethnic Fused Dance Drumming, Electric Sitar with Guitar Synthesizer and Deep Beat Groove Bass that invites transcendental dance. Belly Dancers slip into these exotic rhythms like an Egyptian Queen into a warm milk bath. Creating a temple of sound, offering a sacred space of bliss, Bhakti Rasa invites you to taste the Nectar Of Devotion.

Costume Contest: Yes, a strut.
Talent Contest: Play an instrument, build something with your genitals, sing karaoke, dance, self-mutilate, recite your poem, etc. No fire spinning or live ammo. Contact us with any special needs to demonstrate your talent.
Character Contest: Contestants must answer questions to establish their character

WORKSHOPS

Here Comes the Sun*

A workshop on renewable energy, particularly solar energy, and how to best use it in places like the playa. A photovoltaics & battery system will be set up and running, along with at least one piece of equipment running off PV-direct. We will use this system in a show-and-tell demonstration to discuss PV modules, charge controllers, batteries, DC appliances, inverters, safety disconnects and fusing, wiring, and PV-direct applications. Depending on time and interest, other topics of discussion may include wind-power, micro-hydro power, human-powered gadgets and the recently passed Colorado law on net-metering.
