Ignition is the team of voting members for Apogaea, and the folks who take the lead on all the different projects and departments that make up the event.  Joining Ignition is a great way to get more involved in the future and planning of Apogaea and your way to make sure your voice is represented on the board.

Apogaea is seeking volunteers for the following positions:

• Parking Daily Leads – Let’s face it, getting people to park efficiently is an art.  Since the space available for parking is limited, we need cat wranglers to head up this difficult task.  This position involves joining a team of parking leads headed up by Brian Edwards.  Each volunteer will run the parking team for one day of the event, from sunup to sundown.  (What do you mean I can’t park my car under the Center Camp tent?  What if it hails?)
• Grant Writer – Apogaea is seeking an individual with experience researching and writing outside grants.  We recently obtained our nonprofit status so we are now eligible for more grants. (more money = more Art!)
• Center Camp Infrastructure/Decoration Lead – Do you have a vision for Center Camp? Make Center Camp THE place to be! We have a great big circus tent, so we need to do it justice! It’s an empty canvass and would be a great venue for small stages, sound, lighting, artwork, common meeting/chill spaces and more. The CCID Lead is in charge of everything Center Camp related EXCEPT performer recruitment and scheduling.  (Will there be pillows?)
• Land Search Lead – This is the person who will continue searching for new and exciting land for Apogaea to use. Even though we have the awesome new land in Bailey, we need to be thinking of contingencies.  (Land, ahoy!)
• Radical Inclusion Lead – It’s one Burning Man’s Ten Principals: “Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.” Apogaea, as the Colorado regional burn, has adopted and is committed to Burning Man’s Ten Principals. If you have ideas about how Apogaea can “welcome and respect the stranger” and are passionate about it, this is the position for you. Taking on this important role would help Apogaea reach out to communities beyond our usual sphere.  (If I see one more middle aged white guy in a tutu…)

This is a call for applications for a two-year board member position (through September, 2013). One of our board members had to leave their position early for personal reasons and we are now looking to fill that spot. DESCRIPTIONS

PRESIDENT:

A. The President shall preside at all meetings of the members of the Corporation, and at all meetings of the Board of Directors.

B. The President shall have general supervision and direction over all other officers of the Corporation and shall see that their duties are properly performed.

C. The President shall execute, acknowledge and deliver in the name of the Corporation all deeds, certificates, contracts, or other instruments necessary in carrying on the affairs of the Corporation when he shall be so specifically authorized by vote of the Board of Directors. S/he shall also have the power to attach the seal of the Corporation to any instrument requiring such seal.

D. The President shall also perform such duties as may be assigned to her/him by the Board of Directors or by amendment to these By-Laws.

VICE PRESIDENT:

A. The Vice President shall, in absence of the President, be vested with all his powers and have authority to perform all his duties. S/he shall also act as an ex officio member on all standing and special committees of the Corporation.

B. The Treasurer shall be the chief disbursing officer of the Corporation. He shall make proper vouchers and receipts for such disbursements and shall render to the Board of Directors at least annually and more often, if required, a complete and accurate account of such transactions.

C. The Treasurer shall keep the President advised of any expenditures to be incurred or funds to be provided, in order that the President may make arrangements of the consummation of such financial matters.

D. The Treasurer shall also perform such other duties as the Board of Directors may, from time to time, direct.

• No micromanagement—do we need your input?  Department leads are empowered to make their own recommendations, we don’t need Board input on every decision.

After the Board of Directors is elected, Directors-elect will serve in a

The Apogaea Board

For those of us who have made the long drive to Apogaea or Burning Man, no doubt many have noticed the signage which lines the entrance road to the gate. You may be one who loves and reads them all or you may be one who ignores them as trivial and passes by with nary a glance. No matter because like them or not, the entrance to Apogaea will have them this year. If you love them, here’s your chance to add your own brilliant thoughts or vision for others to see. If you hate them, here’s your chance to dismiss the triviality and create something substantial and meaningful and, oh yeah, participate in another small way to your already hectic plans for radical self reliance and self expression.

We’ve already got the Burning Man/Apogaea Ten Principals covered but there are still many open sign boards to be filled. The Apogaea theme this year is Illuminate. It would be wonderful if you have an idea relative to this theme you would like to express. Of course, your contribution need not be limited to the event theme. Like all of the Burning Man community, your expression is nearly unlimited with the exception that we’d prefer you avoid negative, hateful or derogatory discussions. For example: Dubstep Sucks! may be a valid opinion from your perspective but there are many others who like or love it. Please your expressions positive. Avoid promotional info like your
camp’s big blow out party on Friday night with the hottest DJ the universe has ever seen. Anything promotional will be rejected.

Keep in mind that at most, those who see these signs will have maybe a second to see and/or read and digest it. Keep it brief, a few words at most.

Due to the limitations of our laminator, these will be printed on legal sized paper so it should fit and yet still be noticeable to someone driving by at the required speed (yyeeaaahhhh, right) of five miles per hour.

*What to Submit:*

If you’re an artist/designer and wants to create your message visually, wonderful. We’ll accept print ready Adobe Illustrator files, PDFs, JPEG/TIFF files or signs already printed on legal sized paper. Unflattened Illustrator compatible files would be great for minor tweaks when in rare cases the printing process must be accommodated. Sadly, to keep costs down, we’re limited to gray scale so four color options can’t be accepted unless you plan on printing your own. If you want to laminate your own as well as print it, we can accept up to around 11×14. The sooner you get the files and or prints off to us, the better the chance you have of it being displayed.
Prior to the work weekend dates of June 4-5 is required but emphasis here: the sooner the better. We don’t have unlimited sign platforms so again, those with earlier submissions will have a greater chance of inclusion.

Work weekend will be very restricted – you must pre-register. Work weekend is for working!

Who: Some volunteers to help DPW or other event infrastructure; Pre-registered theme camps and artists who need to start setting up their projects (Not everyone who wants to come will be able to come – there are strict limits)
Where: Near Bailey – directions to be provided by June 3rd, ONLY to those who RSVP!

Due to restrictions by the landowner, we need to know who’s going to be there and what they’ll be doing. If you plan to attend work weekend, you MUST RSVP with the following information NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1st.  If you’ll be there to work on your own project or are driving with a group of people, please submit ONE RSVP FOR THE ENTIRE GROUP.
