Medical Volunteers 2016

1) Emergency Services: Incident Commander (IC)

This participant-volunteer position falls under Emergency Services and is lead by the BAMF Lead. This onsite position requires pre-event training (Protocol / Procedure / ICS review) and one 24 hour shift during the event.

On-site duties include assuming command of any incident that warrants activation of ICS team, collaborating with all departments within Apogaea and Local Agencies. Applicants are encouraged to have experience with Incident Command Systems (ICS), radios, and have completed on-line ICS training per the standards set by the BAMF Lead. The BAMF Lead will elect the final candidates.

2) Emergency Services: Medical Shift Lead

This participant-volunteer position falls under Emergency Services and is lead by the BAMF Medical Lead. It will require pre-event training (Protocol / Procedure / ICS review) and a minimum of one 8 hour Medical shift during the event.

This year, Apogaea’s Medical volunteers will collaborate with an event EMS team with the goal of expanding Apogaea’s Safety Services and providing a safe environment for our participants and medical volunteers. We will continue to support Radical Self-Expression and Radical Reliance, and continue to provide first aid for our fellow participants. 2016 Protocols and Procedures will be provided regarding the new land and local regulations.

Applicants are required to have medical experience as an MD, NP, PA, RN, DO, Paramedic, EMT, or military medic and must have up-to-date BLS or ACLS, and ICS-100 certifications. Desired skills include experience in Event Medicine (i.e. Apogaea, other regional burns, Burning Man, other music and camping festivals.) You will be asked to provide current certifications and licenses.

On-Site Duties: Your #1 priority is to triage participants entering the Medical Tent, tracking and directing who is seen by the event EMS staff verses Apogaea’s Medical staff. Your second priority is to provide guidance to your Medical Specialists and Medical Supports regarding Apogaea’s Protocols and Procedures.

You are encouraged to bring a first aid bag, and any first aid supplies and tools that will make you feel comfortable during your shift.

3) Emergency Services: Medical Specialist

This participant-volunteer position falls under Emergency Services and is lead by the BAMF Medical Lead with on-site guidance of the Medical Shift Lead. It will require some pre-event training (Protocol / Procedure review) and a minimum of one 8 hour Medical shift during the event.

This year, Apogaea’s Medical volunteers will collaborate with an event EMS team with the goal of expanding Apogaea’s Safety Services and providing a safe environment for our participants and medical volunteers. We will continue to support Radical Self-Expression and Radical Reliance, and continue to provide first aid our fellow participants. 2016 Protocols and Procedures will be provided regarding the new land and local regulations.

On-Site Duties: You will offer basic first aid to accepting participants. This can include: illness and trauma, burns, dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, airway / respiratory distress, bug bites, chest pain and more. Our #1 priority is to make sure our participants get the assistance they need, and if we are unable to provide that assistance on-site then we will help them get to where they need to be.

You are encouraged to bring a first aid bag, and any first aid supplies and tools that will make you feel comfortable during your shift.
