Creative Grant Application

Please consider the following and include the relevant answers in your grant information.

  • If you think you will be making controversial statements with your piece, please include this information with your proposal. Controversy alone is not grounds to deny a grant but we do want the opportunity to consider the effects of such work as well as find the optimum location to display and share your creativity.
  • The event population is expected to be at least 500 women, men and children. Are you prepared to meet the masses as they venture out to see funded work? Do you have safeguards in place for user "error"? Theft? Damage? Are there any health hazards or danger to the environment?
  • Due to the possibility of a fire ban in Colorado, we recommend propane fire rather than open flame.

Apogaea, Inc. reserves the right to remove projects from the event site.

Grants accepted until midnight 15 January 2008.

Creative Grant Form

You must answer all questions, even if it's just a "N/A".

Your submission will be rejected, and all information lost, if any fields are empty.

Grants accepted until midnight 15 January 2008.

We recommend that you type the answers to your questions off-line in a text document before you complete the on-line questionnaire. Copy and paste your answers into the web form, and please save your text document for future reference.

Artists Expectations. Please read each expectation and initial each one in the box provided.
1. Know what can and what can not be funded by the Apo Board
2. Ask for help when you need it (Communicate with your Liasion in a timely manner on all matters. Liasons will provide artists with a timeline. We need to hear from you around the assigned dates and get a status report on your project. This will help us gauge whether you need some motivation or if you are 10 steps ahead of yourself.)
3. Contribute to the financial expense of the project
4. Arrange for transportation to & from To/From the event site. We will help you with networking and alternate resources if you don't have your own transportation arranged, but don't depend on us to get it there.
5. Supply your own power.
6. Buy your own ticket to the event.
7. Leave no Trace after the event
8. Provide lighting for your project - if neccessary
9. Arrange for performance space if needed.
10. Submit an Artists Agreement - signed and dated.
11. Save project receipts and turn them into your liaison or the committee lead after the event.
12. Fill out the feedback survey after the event
13. If you are unable to complete your project and bring it to Apogaea, you will be expected to return all monies supplied by Apogaea Inc.
14. It is HIGHLY encouraged that artists attend a work weekend to get a lay of the land and work with the placement guru. Moving your piece after the map has been printed is strictly prohibited.

How did you find out about Apogaea Creative Grants?
Friend, Website, Yahoo's Group Posting, Flyer?

1. Purpose - Describe the purpose of your proposed work.
For example: Is this work a centerpiece for a camp, or can it be placed by itself? Does it encourage community involvement, as well as create interactive and participatory experience.? Is it meant to be enjoyed during the day or evening? Is it children friendly? Does it inspire reflection/discussion/action upon self, community and/or the universe?

2. Leave No Trace - Describe your plan for removing all debris and Matter Out Of Place (MOOP) generated by your project.
For example: Are your project materials suitable for the outdoors? Have you considered the effect of citizen interaction, sun, high winds and precipitation to your project? How are you hauling your project out of Apogaea? How will you return your project site back to the original condition and Leave No Trace?

3. Physical Description
For example: Please include the materials involved, colors, the estimated dimensions, weight and any power requirements. Please be detailed and include sketches, images, play scripts, poetry readings, movie clips and/or sound bites where appropriate.

4. Safeguards - What safeguards do you have in place to protect the public from project malfunctions and operator errors?
For example: How do you plan to protect the project from the public? Is your project dangerous? Does it combust? Does it hurt? How do you plan to protect the citizens from the project? Do you need fire extinguishers? Is this a project suitable for children or is it adult only content?

5. Timeline - When will you begin planning, creation, installment and removal?
When will you set up and tear down your project? Please include any specific assistants for this project also needing early entry or late departure. Evidence of your ability to complete the proposed project by the event date is very important. If your project is ambitious consider submitting documentation that you can complete the piece.

6. Itemized Budget - List ALL foreseeable costs related to this project in a line-item form. For example:
Wood - six 8' 2x4s: 6 x $10 = $60
screws - 2 boxes: 2 x $2 = $4
nails - 1 box: $5
glue - 1 bottle: $3
paint 1 quart: $10
fabric - 6 yds: 6 x $6 = $36
...etc.
Please provide realistic prices - if you're not sure, check online stores, such as: Home Depot

7. Partial Funding
Our budget is limited. Realistically, what is the minimum amount of money we could grant you and still see the fruits of your ideas?

8. Your Accomplishments
Please tell us about yourself, Internet links to other projects and/or community involvement. Successes as well as failures are important. Please send the committee supplemental info including detailed drawings, CAD files, sketches, or other graphic illustrations of your creative concept.

9. Transportation
If you are coming from out of state or have a large project to transport to Apogaea, please give us a brief description of your plan. For those of you in Denver, the Arts Committee will be able to provide resources and networking opportunities to help you with transportation if you need it.

10. Website Information
Enter a brief description (100 words or fewer), name and email contact information for your project. This is what we will post on the website to let everyone know about your project.
