Who is Ignition?:

Caroline

(Board Member / President / Administration Liason)

Caroline Kert’s life was changed by Burning Man, and it allowed her to fall back in love with humanity. She first attended Apogaea in 2007 and immediately offered her help on the Board of Directors. Since then, she has served as the Apogaea Volunteer Board Liaison and the Apo Secretary. She also volunteers at Apogaea as a Greeter, at the gate, as a Trained Ranger and with Camp Fossil. On the playa, she has camped with the Mile High Club and Astral Head Wash.

In addition, Caroline has extensive experience working as a board member with local nonprofits. She has helped several organizations transition from a working Board, in which the Directors shoulder the burden of most operational tasks, to a policy Board, in which the Directors focus on maintaining the legality and safety of operations and expanding services.

Caroline lives in Boulder and is a member of the Phoenix Asylum Art Cooperative. She feels that knowing all you lovely freaks makes her a much happier and well-rounded person!

John[ny One] Semple / J1S

(Board Member / Art Committee Liason / Information Booth Lead)

Johnny One-Spur got his moniker at the final Geodesika festival, when he lost one of his boots spurs during the Great Cowboy/Clown War of ‘03. His horse has been riding in circles ever since. He’s on the Board of Apogaea, has created artwork for Apogaea and Burning Man (including last year’s plywood Colossus), and currently heads up the Apogaea Creative Committee before the festival and the Info Booth during it. 2009 was his fifth Burning Man and 2010 will be his seventh Apogaea. He likes bacon.

Ronica

(Board Member / Volunteers Liason)

Ronica attended her first Burning Man in 2002, and officially switched from lost Jerry’s kid (deadhead) to lost Burner. This Hippie Raver (or is it Raver Hippie?) has been dancing in deserts ever since. Went to Apo at Dreamtime and found out you can dance in a wedding dress in the forest, too. For some reason, Ronica left Colorado for a little while, and learned that Washington, DC’s regional (Playa Del Fuego) is TWICE a year, which is just silly. Burned 5 ponies in two years!

Ronica now Aims High (with wife Amy) in Boulder, reaching for the Apogaea. She doesn’t have a playa name, because her parents already gave her a madeup name.

Bobalicious

(Burning Man Regional Representative – Denver)

Born a Burner in ‘71, but unrealized until ‘98, Bobalicious has been running Astral Headwash on the playa since ‘98. He did take off ‘09 to do something better than Burningman, and that was to marry his love, Miss Alicious, whom he met at Burningman in 2006. Bobalicious has also attended Burningman regionals: Geodesika, Apogaea in Dreamtime, Freezingman and Flipside. He has been a part of Dome on the Range, HeeBeeGeeBee Healers, Smoking Bones and Blues BBQ, and Fossil camp. His unofficial (well, maybe it’s official by now) title for Apogaea is “Offical Shit-Mitigator”, for finding solutions to problems at the last minute. He is also well known for feeding his friends and the hard workers at the Apogaea work weekend. So come on out and give us a hand, you may learn exactly what a Bacon-Explosion is! =)

Michael Blank / Luki Pa’a

(Territorial Advisor – Fort Collins)

Luki Pa’a was a name given to Michael by a Hawaiian mystic, it roughly translates to “The Boy With Deep Eyes”…. He attended his first Burning Man in 2009, which was yet another life-changing experience, much like when he first attended Apogaea in 2005. The catharsis and release he experienced watching the Buddha burn that first year struck deep, and has been back every year ever since. First creating Time Shock Therapy Camp in 2006, the crew grew ever larger and they morphed into The Universital Bongalow in 2007, then the Hidden Garden of Groove in 2008. Now he is content to participate in other ways – through photography, volunteering and giving northern colorado the best T&A they have ever seen.

“I use light as both my canvas and my brush, and have been particularly interested in bright, wild portraiture which captures the color and beauty of life on the fringe. I have been photographing counterculture events and sharing my art with the community for many years, and will continue to bring my unique perspective to the experiment of capturing a moment in time.”

Travis Roberts

(Fire and Emergency Services Lead)

A 10 year veteran of Emergency Services at Burning Man since 2000, and a veteran of the Colorado burns (Geodesika and TEFKAG (the event formerly known as Geodesika)), he has cross-pollinated his default world firefighting / paramedic experience from Black Rock city to Apogaea. With a highly qualified faction of remarkable (and very charming!) safety personnel, he makes sure that you and your fellow compatriots stay safe at Apogaea. When not dealing with safety issues, you are sure to find him at his dome enjoying a cold beer from a glass bottle or hula hooping somewhere around the event.

Rraine

(Lamplighters Lead)

I have camped with the Lamplighters at Burning Man for all three years that I have gone. I have also been paid staff for the Man helping to set up Lamplighter Village for two years. The Lamplighters gave me a home, a community, a purpose and the best dinner on the Playa when I knew no one ( I went to my first Burning Man alone) and they have been dear to my heart ever since. When I was asked to create Lamplighters for Apogaea, I was excited. When the realization came that LEDs were a smarter option in dry Colorado than gas lanterns, I felt that it would be an insult to Playa Lamplighters to use LEDs, so I created something very unlike the Lamplighters at Burning Man. Instead of old style gas lanterns, we have bright, festive lamps. Instead of solemn ceremony and white robes, we have silly songs and costumes. Last year we started with four lamp posts and this year we will add four more. Quick note of thanks to Michele, Cynthia, and Shutterbug for helping me to build them. Sadly, I was not able to attend Apogaea last year, but with help from Michele and Cynthia, things ran fairly smoothly and those that participated, loved it. I will be there this year for my third Apogaea. I am also a fire spinner with the Colorado Fire Tribe / Conclave.

Miss Alicious

(Art Grants)

Found my happily ever after at Burning Man 2006. Happiest when playing with fire or hoops…or my Bobalicious. At Apogaea, most likely to be greeting, lamp lighting, hooping, or performing with Conclave.

Felonious

(Effigy Lead)

Felonious is a grumpy veteran burner. Although ambivalent about the direction both Burning Man and Apogaea have been taking, he is thankful for the opportunity to coordinate the communal building of the effigy.

Karmalicious (Karma)

(Greening Lead)

The AKA’s are too long to list…but guess you wanted a blurb; Green Goddess or Green Queen (I’ve heard Green Nazi); Crazy Mc Tits (Evals fav); APO Earth Guardian Lead
I love & have a been a participant in my international & local burner community for years now. I use to just cum for fun but learned that you get soooo much more out of Burning Man and locals by truely participating and giving and gifting something great back to the community. I hope that my free naked green spirt and fun loving attitude and hard work can spill over all the time into my everyday life and others…..live the burner life 365 days a year and create a local community that is strong in art and love and takes on a family attitude all the time. I am also a die hard snowboarder. I live to RIDE big POWDER mountains and BURN!

Sam Ley

(Fire On-Site Lead)

Sam is a member of the Phoenix Asylum artist cooperative in Boulder, CO, and is on his first year as Fire Safety Lead for Apogaea. He has been a member of the Flipside (Austin, TX) fire suppression team for 5 years running, and helped at the first few years of Interfuse (Columbia, MO). While it may be true that “if you play with fire, you’re gonna get burned,” Sam’s goal is to keep that to a minimum!

(Greeters Co-Lead)

Teo Del Fuego

(Greeters Co-Lead)

Stuart Theodore, aka Teo del Fuego, was co-lead for the Greeters at Apogaea in 2007 and gifted the Greeters Station with a Steampunk Tiki Bar and plenty of mojitos in dixie cups.  This year will mark his fifth Apogaea and sixth Burning Man event in a row.  He and his palm-thatched tiki bar will be camping with Hula Hideaway this year.  When not practicing law, Teo builds custom cruiser bikes decked out with LEDs, bamboo, coconuts and whatever else he can find.  He also is a frustrated musician whose sole public performance to date was at the Miss Apogaea Talent Show where his bribes of stiff mixed drinks earned him a third-place finish behind a woman decked out in duct tape and a digerido player.  Teo loves working at the Greeter Station and being the first bit of craziness participants see upon arrival.
